No one should have to choose between keeping their FAM and finding shelter. We believe that both humans and their FAMS deserve safe housing and nutritious food.

Welcome, let's get to know each other...

RESCUES ON85TH, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Birmingham, Alabama, is dedicated to serving Jefferson County by providing essential animal welfare services. Our mission is to ensure that struggling households can care for Furry Family Members (FAMs), especially those experiencing financial challenges.

In collaboration with key partners such as the Birmingham Humane Society, DoorDash, United Way 211, local veterinarians, charities, and OneRoof, we offer a comprehensive range of services designed to support the health and happiness of your FAMs. These services through the N1 NUTRITION ONE program which includes:

- Free food and supplies for FAMs in need.
- Spay and Neuter Services to promote healthier FAMs and control overpopulation.
- Medical care, including vaccinations and preventative treatments (where funding permits).
- Interactive toys, beds, and supportive supplies for FAMs with disabilities and older FAMs to improve their well-being.

Homeless Outreach Services for Families with FAMs

We recognize the unique challenges faced by homeless individuals and families with FAMs. To meet their needs with equal care, we have expanded our mission to include dedicated outreach and support. Partnering with local homeless outreach programs, we deliver essential resources to keep families and their FAMs together, safe, and healthy. Our homeless outreach services include:
- Housing Support: Through partnerships with housing advocates and cat and/or dog-friendly housing agencies, we work to secure safe housing solutions that allow families and their FAMs to remain together. We advocate for inclusive policies to eliminate barriers for FAM-friendly housing, ensuring stability for all family members.
- Community Connection: Establishing a compassionate network of support, fostering a sense of belonging, and promoting the well-being of both FAMs and their human family members.

These resources help improve the overall quality of life for individuals and their FAMs during challenging times.

We are able to provide these vital resources through bulk purchases and generous donations from retailers, agencies, and community supporters. Our services are distributed through mobile operations and our virtual food bank, ensuring we reach as many families and FAMs as possible.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps keep our volunteer-based services running, making a real difference in the lives of FAMs and their families. Together, we ensure every FAM receives the care, love, and resources they deserve.

Our Mission

At RESCUES ON85TH, our mission is to create a world where every FAM (Furry Family Member) is cherished, healthy, and secure. We provide comprehensive support to FAMs and their families, addressing critical needs with equal dedication. Through our food and supply pantry, we combat FAM hunger, offer vital veterinary services—including spay and neuter programs—and provide compassionate support for lost or deceased FAMs. We extend our services to families facing hardships, ensuring their FAMs receive the dignity and care they deserve. Our goal is to prevent FAM homelessness, reduce unnecessary euthanasia, and foster responsible care within a community that values and honors the welfare of FAMs as equal to human family members.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every FAM is embraced as an equal and respected family member, enjoying a life filled with dignity, love, and comprehensive care. Our goal is to shift society’s perspective on “pets” to acknowledge FAMs as true family members, equally deserving of rights and benefits. Our vision includes:

- Government-Supported Benefits: Access to income tax credits, government-funded healthcare, and stipends for essential care, recognizing FAMs as dependents in financially challenged households.
- Respect and Protection: Stronger legislation against abuse and exploitation, ensuring FAMs are safe, valued, and treated with the same care as human family members.
- End-of-Life Dignity: Humane burial assistance and recognition for FAMs, offering families comfort and closure during difficult times.

Our Beliefs

Our mission is founded on the belief in the equal worth and dignity of every FAM. We operate by these core principles:

- Compassion and Care: Every FAM deserves a loving home, proper nourishment, and access to veterinary care. Their well-being is our highest priority.
- Preventative Action: We are committed to reducing FAM homelessness and suffering through spay and neuter programs.
- Empowerment Through Education: By educating caregivers, we empower families to provide the best possible care for their FAMs.
- Respect for Life: We honor every FAM, including those who are lost, and offer compassionate support to families.
- Community Collaboration: Building a supportive community through partnerships and volunteer engagement strengthens our network for all FAMs.
- Re-identification and Respect: We aim to shift societal views on FAMs, moving away from terms like “pets” and toward recognizing them as family members. This shift fosters a bond rooted in respect and equality, strengthening the human-animal connection.

Together, through dedication, education, and collaboration, we are creating a world where every FAM is equally valued, loved, and given the opportunity to thrive. Join us in redefining care for our beloved FAMs and in advocating for a compassionate community.
