  • How does RESCUE85 benefit the community?
We assist in alleviating food insecurity within the household for humans, cats, and dogs. We obtain and distribute donated products from national pet companies, such as cat and dog food, in addition to bedding, litter boxes, cat litter, and other goods when available. We are a supplemental program meant to assist (not replace) in prfoviding these items to (FAM) Furry Family Members and neighbors for their nutritional needs
  • Why do you provide pet food within food pantries?
RESCUES ON85TH found throughobservation and surveys that many FAM parents often share their food obtained from Human food boxes from food pantries. Others have either surrendered or abandoned their cats and/or dogs due to their inability to care for them. In providing these products we seek to help keep cats and dogs in-home.
  • How can I care for my pets' physical, emotional, and mental needs?
Point of View: As humans we need love, respect, compassion, prolonged great health, comfortability, and of course to survive. FAMs want the same. Make sure you provide them with health check ups and vaccinations, look for any changes in behavior such as depression, lack of appetite, etc. If temperatures are too hot or cold for you, they are also. Imagined being changed for the rest of your life or used to breed only to have your children taken away. Imagine having a doghouse where there is no room to move around in or a cold hard floor to lay in. With these understandings in place and a change of Point of View can we understand how to be a GREAT FAM parent! Provide them with fresh food and water daily, daily brushing and dental care, vaccinations are the most important need, and microchipping your pet or having a collar. especially GPS collar on FAMs at all times is crucial if your pet gets lost. You may also choose to have your pet spayed or neutered. If your home has a fence they have access to exercise, but also a walk around the area, and playtime with your pet is an added bonus for bonding time. Never, never strike or hit your pet. Especially just to make a selfie or Facebook post to gain likes. If you are in a Domestic Violence situation know that the abuser may harm your pet to inflict emotional harm and attempt to gain control over, you. Never adopt or breed animals for fighting tournaments, laws are in place for this illegal activity. If you have witnessed such activity do not hesitate to report the incident to the Humane Society or local Law enforcement. You can remain anonymous in reporting. Also be sure to visit our Think Tank for video from TEDx, where they discuss more concerning your companions, physical, emotional, and behavioral needs, and that teaches the FAMs parent some very interesting perspectives.
  • How does leaving a deceased and injured animals to suffer, affect my community?
Animals like humans have a priority need which is to survive, to be loved, but often times stray, injured, or lost animals wander into neighborhoods met with cruelty and abuse. if you see animal abuse report it. Turning away from the incident or ignoring it doesn't make it disappear. Become a Neighborhood team captain or contact your local human society for information or assistance. If there are strays, help to control the pet population by participating in trap and spay programs, offer pet food, never let the alternative to watch the animal starve to death. Report strays in order to allow them the opportunity to find good homes or offer your home to them. Special Note: Many shelters that accept sick animals may euthanize them. be sure to ask direct questions.
  • What can I do to help animals in my neighborhood?
Well, look at you taking the initiative to lead your community, Way to Go! There are many ways you can help. 1. One way is if you see many cats in your neighborhood, you can be a part of the spay and neuter program. Through these programs, you obtain safe cats where they can be taken to control excessive litters. 2. If you see abuse or dog fighting tournaments report it to local law enforcement. Also, anonymous to report. If you don't want to use phone fax or write a letter. Coving your head with a pillow or turning the music up where you can't hear the abuse or mistreatment or cries for help does not make it disappear. 3. If your neighbor's dog goes missing, offer to help by posting flyers, and searching the neighborhood, connect with one of many lost pet apps and suggest listing the picture of the pet for others to help in the search.
  • How do I prepare in case my pet becomes lost?
    1. Use ID tags: The winter weather can mask familiar scents. If your pet gets lost, they might not be able to find their way back home. Your pet must wear a collar with ID tags at all times. 2. Having up-to-date tags, a microchip, and a GPS collar is the best three-pronged approach to increasing the chances your pet will be returned to you if he goes missing. Furthermore, training is key to preventing a dog from escaping. 3. Provide a current photo and an accurate description of your pet: breed, hair/coat length, and color (don’t forget special markings), size, age, and ear type (pointed, long, short, droopy). We provide a free account under the Need Help text at the upper right of the website. There you can upload your pets' pictures and other information; in case this occurs or just for extra records to keep handy. 4. Have a friend in your preparedness plan: Have a list of friends' numbers on a sticky note, place it on your refrigerator or anywhere in the home. In a time of panic, this can help remind us of what to do and whom to call for help. That list of friends and neighbors may have seen your pet, or help post flyers throughout the neighborhood, on a post, at businesses, especially where restaurants or trash bins are located, as they will be searching for food. 5. Registered with pet with AKC Reunite, call the Reuniters Helpline at 800-252-7894 to let them know your pet is lost and to enable an operator to confirm your contact information is up-to-date. Also, visit the website to create a “Lost Pet Alert” (learn how to activate this service here). 6. Sounds are most familiar to a lost pet, so bring along your pet’s favorite treat or toy, and call out words he responds to, such as “toy” or “treat,” along with his name. 7. Use multiple platforms — Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+. Post your pet and request that anyone who has seen or has your pet to contact you. (in a safe environment, be careful). 8. The Most important one, "Never Give Up Looking"
